I've got a complicated web script installed on one of my hosting accounts but it doesn't seem to perform well.
First, if i was to rent a dedicated server and install my own hosting control panel and OS, the script will work perfectly, but dedicateds are expensive.
The script won't work on a VPS with the same arrangement, for some odd reason, and has different levels of success with different shared hosting accounts.
At the moment, i've got it installed on a cpanel account supplied by myself from a reseller hosting account. This arrangement is the closest i've got to it performing as if it was on a dedicated server.
The problems i encounter range from picture uploads failing to work, to the not being able to log in, in either or both of two ways. The main script is an open id server, the idea being that a user has an open id profile page which bookmarks sites visited and logged into via it's open id service.
On anything but a dedicated, it may allow users to sign into their own account, but not to log in as visitors to other peoples guestbook. On some hosting arrangements it will, on some it won't.
Then, even if it does let users log into other peoples pages, it may not allow them to use their open id outside of the server, for example to log into an unrelated site that allows open id.
On my current arrangement, i have the most baffling problem...
One script is open id, provided on one of my reseller accounts, the other adds blog, wiki, and forum functionality and is hosted on a second account (but all on the same server).
Both scripts require a) URL redirect, two folders deep, so that mydomain.com re-directs to mydomian.com/main/pages/
and b) wildcard subdomains enabled with the root folder being home/public_html/main/pages.
This is accomplished via .htaccess BUT....although both scripts may work perfectly, after an hour or so one or the other script goes wrong, saying that the page is re-directing in a way that may never finish.
Later in the day, both scripts will work properly again.
Q1. What is wrong with my .htaccess:
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^mysite\.us$ [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.mysite\.us$
RewriteRule ^/?$ "http\:\/\/mysite\.us\/main\/pages" [R=301,L]
Q2. When both scritps are functioning, what could be preventing the script from allowing outside websites connecting, while permitting localhost sites access?
